Music therapy definitions are many and usually a little technical. When we say music we are talking about a complex human phenomenon that is present in every culture and age. This universality of music is enriched by the diversity of traditions, instruments, styles, repertories and the corpus of gestures and techniques of music production. And we make music with our bodies: the voice, body rhythms, movements, the relations between the senses and the brain’s elaboration. Music therapy is a therapy that uses the dynamics of verbal and especially non verbal involved in the communication of two or more people, in the same time and space setting, with the goal of improving the health of the participant. Not at all. Being able to play an instrument can be a good thing but it can be also an obstacle: knowing a particular a instrumental technique already can limit the freedom of expression. Musicians and not are both welcome: music speaks to everybody.
Listening and playing music provokes fireworks in your body and brain.

Someone said that ‘playing is the child’s job’ Communication through sounds, musical instruments, space and melodies are ‘games’ ready for facilitating and encouraging the development of the child. I suggest a documentary about the work of a British music therapist (Dr. Amelia Oldfield), where we can see her clients (and families) with a gap of 10 years sharing around the experience of music therapy. Operation Syncopation (sous-titres en FR)
Music therapy is an invitation to let go or to take action. It is an invitation to expression yourself with or without words. It is an invitation to discover yourself in the lyrics of a song, or create a new one. Music therapy is an invitation to be silent or to scream, to dance or to meditate. It is an invitation towards the dynamics of communication, saying yes or no, dare to decide. Music therapy is an invitation towards the joys of experiencing, sharing, playing and reflecting authentically in a safe environment.
